FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Narrowsburg, NY, April 6, 2015

The organizers of the Empire State Performance Rally regret to announce that due to record setting snow fall in the Northeast this winter, the roads are still impassable with up to two feet of snow and ice on 75% of the stages. Pete Lahm of P-Sport, was in the area this past weekend to create the stage notes and also declared that the roads, which are a network of private roads not maintained by any state agency for winter passage, are unusable at this point in time.

The April date for ESPR has been changed to October 17 & 18, 2015. While a new date earlier in the summer would have been preferrable, the roads are part of a camping facility that is naturally booked solid during the summer months. The organizers would like to thank all the teams on the entry list as well as the Town of Tusten, and all the volunteer marshals, radio operators and sponsors who have shown support for the event so far.

“We have only just begun to see any melting in the area, with our first day over fifty degrees just last week.” said organizer Fran Gager. “Fortunately, the one passable road is the one that we are using for the upcoming test day, so local rally teams can still get some seat time.”

“Moving a rally is difficult for everyone involved.” said Anders Green of NASA Rally Sport. “We had to do this a couple years ago when Magnum Opus in Michigan was sitting under feet of snow too. And with Boston just reporting that this winter had the most snow ever recorded in over a century, it’s not hard to see how these private roads could be seriously buried.”

The New York Test Day 1, on April 11, will use a 2.5 mile section of road that is clear and has no snow. Entry for the Test Day is still open with just a few spots left toward the ten car limit.
